Ghibli’s Gentoro at the Toyama Glass Art Museum

The Kid Should See This

Fairy lights, cloudy skies, and familiar characters magically dance across the darkened room. An illuminated tower featuring famous Studio Ghibli scenes in stained glass is topped with an orrery of sorts–a moving mechanical model of the Ghibli solar system projected across the surrounding walls.

This is Ghibli’s Gentoro, an original piece created by Toyama Glass Art Institute, Toyama Glass Studio, and artists Fuwari_lab / ( LENS ) for Studio Ghibli.

Ghibli’s Gentoro was an exclusive highlight of the 2018-2019 The Ghibli Exposition: From Nausicaä to Marnie at the Toyama Glass Art Museum in Toyama, Japan. The traveling expo was a celebration of the studio’s 30 years of work.

The exhibition also featured a massive illuminated ship from Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky.
