What to Expect: Unicorns, Magic, Hope, Imagination

Ajala is not having a good day. From getting her lines in the school play rehearsal wrong to not speaking out when she saw a friend being bullied, Ajala feels like she can’t do anything right today. When she trips and breaks her tablet, she really feels like the day just can’t get any worse. However, the broken tablet has a few surprises in store for Ajala. It transports her to the magical world of Sanma, where Violet the Unicorn takes her to meet the stars—Confidence, Creativity, and Courage—and helps Ajala find the inner strength she needs to start a fresh, new day tomorrow.

Ajala and the Magical Unicorn Ride is a simple, sweet story about finding one’s inner strength and true self. Ajala herself is a relatable, engaging character, whose sweet nature helps readers see that poor choices and small failures are not a reflection of one’s character. Despite the presence of magical unicorns, the story is filled with realistic and believable touches, from Ajala’s familiar clothes and electronics to the big, round spectacles Confidence wears. The illustrations glow and sparkle with color, inviting readers to see the beauty in the world around them.

Overall, Ajala and the Magical Unicorn Ride is a lovely story with a lovely message.
