[Book Quote Tuesday] Writing in Remembrance As An Act Of Defiance

It is that time of the week again where we share a book quote that seemed particularly striking for us.

For the month of JUNE, our book quote theme is: DEFIANCE.

In the wake of the recently-concluded Philippine election, my mood for the entire month is reflected in our book quote theme.

I started reading Susan Orlean’s The Library Book (Amazon | Book Depository) a few years back but did not get a chance to finish it – and I had to return it to the library. I like how she has framed writing as a belief in the “persistence of memory.” As people determinedly attempt to forget the horrors of the past, this act of remembrance and writing is indeed an act of defiance.
