Nike nurses’ shoes honor everyday heroes working in medicine and healthcare.

Cool Mom Picks

Sometimes the best way to appreciate the work someone does is simply to recognize it. Which is why all of us were so thrilled to come across the new Nike Zoom Pulse. People are calling them “Nike nurses’ shoes,” because it’s their first shoe designed specifically for healthcare workers.

And, they will totally make you rethink what “nurse’s shoes” are supposed to look like. And we bet lots of medial professionals are cheering for that!

Think about how people like nurses, doctors, home health providers, physical and occupational therapists, and health care workers of all kinds can often be on their feet 11 hours a shift. They may easily walk four to five miles each day of work — and that doesn’t count the commute.

They deserve a stylish and supportive shoe same as anyone else.

But what I really like, is that Nike didn’t just give a nod to the everyday heroes around us by slapping an adapted EMS Star of Life on the shoes. (Although, it is a really nice design touch.) Instead, they spent time designing and product testing with actual nurses at the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, helping them create valuable features like a protective coating for easy cleaning (because nursing is messy), and a sole with excellent cushioning and traction to prevent slips.

Even cooler, six patients at the children’s hospital worked with Nike to come up with their own whimsical shoe designs. You’ll be able to order those starting December 7, with all profits going back to the the hospital.

My own tween even just walked in and asked about the blue Nike Zoom Pulse sneakers, before he realized that they weren’t designed with him in mind.

You can buy the Nike Zoom Pulse shoes from Nike.com with free shipping and returns, or from your local shoe store just in time for a great holiday gift for your favorite healthcare worker.  Find the limited-edition kids’ designs from Nike, benefitting OHSU Doernbacher Children’s Hospital, starting 12/7/20.
