Santa's Surprise- The Story of Bobby Lint

Written by E. L. Nixon

Ages 3-8 | 32 Pages

Publisher: Warren Publishing | ISBN-13: 9781954614697

What to Expect: Christmas, Holiday spirit, Friendship, Imagination

With gentle humor and a bit of imagination, Santa’s Surprise: The Story of Bobby Lint reminds us that friends are not so much made as they are found.

Sometimes, friends can be discovered in the most unlikely places. Santa had no idea, on that day long ago when he stepped into the bath, that the rushing waters would reveal a small and unexpected new friend! Bobby Lint is a bit of belly-button lint. No one knows how he got in there—he may have come from a sock or a shirt, or even from the cat—but one way or another, he ended up in Santa’s belly button until the bath shook him loose and revealed him to the world. Now Bobby Lint is one of Santa’s best friends and helpers!

Simple rhyming text makes it easy for young readers to follow the story and join in the fun, all while learning new vocabulary. Tiny as he is, Bobby’s fears and joys are easy for young readers to relate to, while the story’s message—that the holiday spirit applies to everyone, no matter how small and different—is reassuring. Colorful line and paint illustrations add more humor as they show the world from the perspective of the tiny piece of lint, reminding readers that our realities are more subjective than we think.

About the Author

E.L. Nixon, originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, has lived in the Charlotte, North Carolina; and Clover, South Carolina areas for most of his life. Although he’s written poetry and lyrics and painted as far back as he can remember, this is his first published work. When he’s not working his real job, he can usually be found running through his neighborhood in the pre-dawn hours.

About the Illustrator

Spike Maguire was born and raised in Corrigan, a small town in Polk County, Texas. Due to the lack of entertainment in the town Spike spent his free time as a child copying images from an old Marvel comic, it was this that sparked his lifelong interest in illustration.

After graduating high school he got a job at the local lumber mill where he worked for three years and saved enough money to go to art college. At the age of 21, he moved to NYC where he studied illustration at the School of Visual arts. He then moved to London where he established himself as a children’s illustrator. He now lives in Buenos Aires with his girlfriend and three pet dogs. As well as illustrating Spike enjoys collecting vintage synthesizers, playing guitar, and skateboarding
