Coney a Trip to Luna Park

Written and Illustrated by Jeffrey Lindberg

Ages 3-8 | 48 Pages

Publisher: Flying Rabbit Press | ISBN-13: 9780578908786

What to Expect: History, friendship, empathy, theme parks.

Millie and Selena don’t meet under the best circumstances: a mean man and his friendly companion are digging up the dune where Selena has her rabbit hole. After she goes to live with Millie, the two friends can’t help but be fascinated by the strange and exciting buildings springing up where the sandy dunes used to be. There are wild rides, bright lights, and even giraffes and elephants! Soon, Selena’s old home has been transformed into Luna Park—the most exciting thing to see on Coney Island. But will Selena be safe there from the mean man?

Based on the real history of Coney Island and Luna Park, Coney: A Trip to Luna Park is a sweet and whimsical imagining of what it must have been like to live in Brooklyn when this iconic site was first developed. It is also a story about friendship and empathy, showing how companionship can be found in the most unlikely places. At the same time, readers will love Selena and Millie’s wild antics and adventures. Colorful sketches illustrate the story in rich detail, bringing this past world to life. A historical end note encourages readers to find out more about the history behind the story.

Coney: A Trip to Luna Park is a whimsical trip through time to a magical and timeless icon of childhood.

About the Author

Jeffrey Lindberg is a professional illustrator and author whose book Coney – A Trip to Luna Park is forthcoming from Flying Rabbit Press in early fall 2022. Jeffrey wanted to write and illustrate a book about Coney Island that was historically accurate while still being a fictional story. Jeffrey did a lot of research for his book, finding historical facts and details of the park, as well as archival photographs on which he based his story’s paintings. He hopes his readers will come away from his book with a newfound knowledge of the history of Coney Park and also with a sense of amazement that such a wonderful place existed on the shores of Brooklyn back in 1904!

In addition to his creative work, Jeffrey is an adjunct professor in New Jersey and has been teaching for 20 years. After living in Brooklyn for thirty years, Jeffrey and his family are now living happily in South Orange NJ, just a stone’s throw from Coney Island.
